I'm a Contrail fan. I love his pedigree. In addition to being by Deep Impact, he has a very strong direct female family. It is from the Striking branch of the La Troienne family. Contrail's third dam, Contrive, was the dam of champion Folklore. She was also the granddam of Essential Quality. This branch of the La Troienne family is still producing high class horses nearly 68 years after the great mare's death.

https://www.drf.com/news/2021-breeders- ... -star-showLoves Only You (Filly and Mare Turf) came out on the track immediately after the renovation break along with March Lorraine but did not begin her breeze until nearly 30 minutes later. Breaking off at a leisurely pace from the half-mile pole, the multiple Group 1 winner cruised an opening quarter in 25.99 before coming down the lane in a crisp 22.96 under just some nudging pressure before galloping out five furlongs in 1:02.32.
She finished full of run while not appearing to be going that fast in a solid move on the dirt for a mare whose action is clearly that of a turf specialist.

''Three-year-old colt Efforia triumphs in three-way battle for Group 1 Tenno Sho''
https://www.racingpost.com/news/three-y ... sho/519314
This year's Tenno Sho, at Tokyo on Sunday, ended up as a battle between the top three in the market, with last year's Triple Crown winner and favourite Contrail taking in his first race after a seven-month break against Gran Alegria and Satsuki Sho hero Efforia, who was runner-up in the Japanese Derby.
The sole three-year-old colt Efforia raced in sixth behind the leaders before coming home to defeat the lunging-late Contrail by a length, with Gran Alegria a neck back in third.
Efforia, a son of Epiphaneia and out of Hearts Cry's winning mare Katies Heart, was making it a fifth win from six career starts, while for winning rider Takeshi Yokoyama this was a second Group 1 victory in a week following the Kikuka Sho, in which he partnered Titleholder.
Yokoyama's success also marked a third generation win in the race following on from his grandfather Tomio Yokoyama, on Mejiro Taiyo in 1969, and father Norihiro Yokoyama (Company, 2009).
Yokoyama said: "I was happy and cried for the first time in my life after getting him beaten in the Derby. Although it is a Covid disaster, I would like to say thank you for being able to race in front of a large number of people.
"He's a horse who starts a race well and is quite versatile. We got into an ideal position, and I believed in the ability of the horse. Titleholder and Efforia are good horses.
"I think it's hard to do three generations of parents and children, and it's a small goal but I'm glad I was able to achieve it."
Contrail's rider Yuichi Fukunaga said: "He was in great condition, even after the long break, but he was a bit restless in the stalls and broke unevenly.
"The winner had the ideal position. Although his response was good at the top of the home straight, he tired 100 metres from home."
Christophe-Patrice Lemaire said of third-placed Gran Alegria: "She broke well but her response was not the same as usual. It was quite soft ground and a mile and a quarter is longer than her best. A mile is better for her."

I was pulling for Contrail, but congratulations to Efforia and his connections. Terrific race.

I thought that Contrail ran his race but got beat by a better horse in the Tenno Sho Autumn on Sunday.Ridan_Remembered wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 5:35 pm I was pulling for Contrail, but congratulations to Efforia and his connections. Terrific race.
The 3yo Epiphaneia colt Efforia's clear-cut victory in the historic three-way battle means a lot to the Japanese racing & breeding in the future, as Contrail was widely seen as the Deep Impact's lifetime-best son and Gran Alegria was one of the Deep Impact's lifetime-best daughters.
I suspect that Epiphaneia will be the most expensive stallion at stud in Japan next season.
Efforia could be voted Japan's horse of the year, if he wins the Arima Kinen next, to become the first male runner to get the most prestigious title since Kitasan Black (Black Tide) in 2016.
Deep Impact's death was obviously a huge loss, but hopefully, the Japanese racing & breeding will keep improving and rolling without him.
We are now seeing the generation change and I believe that most Japanese fans welcome it.
And here's the pedigree pattern that may become very popular.
Roberto on the top, with an inbreeding to Sunday Silence in the middle.
Sunday Silence is always there.

Dear Mr Alan Porter (@bloodhorse),
I read your report on Bloodhorse this morning (Japan time).
And I was deeply impressed by your analysis on the BC Distaff winner Marche Lorraine's pedigree background.
I can swear that many racegoers in Japan appreciate your work which casted spotlight on an old lineage in Japan.
We are so excited about her unlikely success on the conventional dirt at the highest level in the US, and also thrilled by the fact that her female line has been in Japan for more than 80 years.
I myself looked into her family and the sires who completed her whole pedigree, after I read your article.
It's very fun to learn about the root of the great horse.
Thank you so much for the wonderful report.
I'm sure that racegoers in Japan feel very honored.
My hope is that your report will be read by as many people as possible.

Third! I hope one day this will encourage more countries to come to the Breeder’s Cup. I was starting to think it was really becoming the American Cup….

I do think that this is just the beginning.
And you will also see a bunch of Japanese fans coming to cheer for their horses, whether you like it or not, haha!

I knew Sodashi would be tested on the dirt at some point.
But I didn't imagine she would come back so soon to try it.
A good run in the Champions Cup will give her connections many options in the future including trips to overseas (maybe to the US??).
Best of luck to Sodashi!
