So much pressure on City of Troy to win this race- good thing he doesn't know it!
They were talking about how the horse's heart rate is monitored so as to get him to a point where he is calm---

Yes sorry -meant AR. I know White Birch was entered but has been fighting some type of illness with abnormal bloodwork that has caused him to scratch out of 2 major races including today.

He lugged in pretty badly in the stretch. Between that, the lead changes, and what looked like a labored stride at the finish, I wouldn't be shocked if he comes out of the race with an issue. Hopefully not.
Didn't he win big on soft ground last year? I know not all soft ground is the same, but did it come up then?

Noticed that too- he had his head cocked to the left for most of the stretch run and didn’t change leads as Tessa said. He didn’t seem to have his usual closing kick. I feel like the hype machine around him has made it so any time he doesn't win by open lengths, either his trainer or rider needs to come forward and say it is their fault, or it is the ground, or something else. Ryan Moore has already come out in a post race interview saying that he got the ride wrong by trying to keep the horse off the rail.

Yeah, and City of Troy nevertheless made the rare Derby - Eclipse double following:barbaro111 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 10:40 am
He won but it was not an easy win for him. They describe the race as "not pretty"
A win is a win though.
