Ho hum, Bulldog just casually running sub-1:47 on a 7/8 mile track like it's nothing. And it's also great to see that Cool Papa Bell keeps winning stakes. The longest shot ever to win the Hambletonian has been showing he's no fluke.
Baaeed and Flightline might be the best horses in training but for my money Bulldog Hanover is the best horse actually racing.Squeaky wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 10:54 pm Bulldog Hanover wins for fun in 1:46.3 a new track record at Hoosier.! What a horse! He is giving Flightline/ Baaeed a run as the best racehorse of any breed in training. https://twitter.com/HoP_Racing/status/1 ... l8GmwvDcGw

Some ~drama~ in the first hunt meet of the fall as 4/6 of Keri Brion's runners were scratched by the vet.

Watched this race and a few others and really enjoyed it, thank you for the link! Amazed by how many races there were and how quickly they went off. And I was surprised by the heat format, with the horses running twice in one day- is that common in harness racing?Miss Woodford wrote: ↑Thu Sep 22, 2022 7:10 pm Bythemissal got his handsome face in front to win the Little Brown Jug! And returns to at least a hundred people crowded into the winner's circle lol. Geldings winning the two biggest 3yo harness races is good for the sport, we'll hopefully get to see Bythemissal and Hambletonian winner Cool Papa Bell for many years to come.

If I remember my childhood horse books, they used to run TWO heats to determine the Hambo field. Yes, that is three races in one afternoon.

Your weekly Southwind Amazon update: he moved back up to the open II class (2nd-fastest horses at Northfield) and won by a nose in his usual free-wheeling front-running fashion. Record now stands at 316-123-49-43.

Big races at Dayton on Saturday with all the best older horses. The track broadcasts their live feed for free online and has free program pages.
$250K Dayton Pacing Derby - Saturday, October 1
1-Sandbetweenmytoes
2-Chase H Hanover
3-American Courage
4-This Is The Plan
5-Workin Ona Mystery
6-Catch The Fire
7-Allywag Hanover
8-Bulldog Hanover
9-Charlie May
This might actually be a test for the Bulldog. The one knock against him is that he's been a big track horse; he's 1-for-4 lifetime on half-mile ovals though he's been kept away from them recently. He's a big rangy horse with a big stride and that plays against him on a half-mile. And the open draw turned out more like a handicap with him getting an outside post.
Dayton Distaff Derby - Saturday, October 1 (for pacing mares, look I don't make the race names okay)
1-Rockin Nola
2-Kobe's Gigi
3-Test Of Faith
4-Chase Lounge
5-Amazing Dream N
6-No Win No Feed A
7-Fire Start Hanover
8-Gia's Surreal
Probably Test of Faith's to lose. No Win No Feed provides an example of the Standardbred Name Paradox (the worse/weirder/more unwieldy the name, the better the horse).
Dayton Trotting Derby - Saturday, October 1
1-Balenciaga
2-Lovedbythemasses
3-Rattle My Cage
4-Winning Ticket
5-Jujubee
6-Back Of The Neck
7-It's Academic
8-Amigo Volo
9-Kildare King
Rattle My Cage should do well here without Atlanta, but I could see several of these guys winning tbh as there's no single superstar in the division.
Dayton Oaks Derby - Saturday, October 1 (I know, I know)
1-Refined
2-Ghostintheshell S
3-When Dovescry
4-Atlanta
5-Herculisa
6-Weslynn Quest
7-Impulse Buy
8-Sorella
9-Bella Bellini
Atlanta is obviously the sentimental favorite, but she has battled both Bella Bellini and When Dovescry at least a dozen times over the past couple years and no one mare has come out the clear leader.
edit: you can ignore half of what I wrote here because I forgot Dayton is 5/8, not 1/2 mile

Bella Bellini just beat males in a recent outing, didn't she?

Yes, though most of the top older mares have at some point. Female Standardbreds (and Arabians, and QHs, and horses in every other equestrian disciplines, and Thoroughbreds outside the USA...) seem to race against males much more often than Thoroughbreds in the US, and in stakes races they usually don't get any sort of allowance for it. Atlanta will be racing against males in the Yonkers International Trot on October 15th.BaroqueAgain1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 9:50 pm Bella Bellini just beat males in a recent outing, didn't she?

Quite surprised at the lack of "Muscles" horses talked about here. Has that suffix fallen out of fashion?

Muscle wasn't ever a reserved suffix or prefix. There was a hugely popular trotting stallion named Muscles Yankee. He had some get with Muscle in their name name such as the sires Muscle Hill and Muscle Mass. Muscles Yankee's best grandget at stud (Six Pack, Bar Hopping, What The Hill, Trixton, etc) just happen to not have "Muscle" in their name so it hasn't really stuck around to the current generation of trotters.

Article about Eclipse Champion Good Night Shirt:
https://paulickreport.com/news/ray-s-pa ... -lifetime/
And not really related to that article, I just looked up Lonesome Glory. I know anyone can edit Pedigreequery but it says: "Gelded, but left listed as a stallion to allow for entry of progeny."
Wasn't he always a gelding? The only foal he has listed is fake.

12-race all-stakes card at Dayton begins shortly, DRF has free video/PPs https://promos.drf.com/dayton I think the OHHA is also broadcasting from their Facebook page, not sure if it's just the track feed or not. 8 Ohio sire stakes finals in addition to the 4 big older horse stakes, pretty much everyone who won an OHSS last week is in tonight and Jug winner Bythemissal will pace back in the 3yo colt/gelding pace right before Bulldog Hanover and co. take the stage. Bulldog is in the 12th and last race going off at 11:05pm, I think Dayton saw "the Bulldog effect" of a huge increase in handle for Hoosier last week and decided to make everyone wait till the end to see him lol.

Unfortunately, it looks like TVG...sorry, I mean Fandrool...isn't showing the harness races from Dayton.
Maybe I can find Youtube replays later.

Did someone in the producer's booth read my post?
Because the races from Dayton are now being shown, and a promotional clip was a replay of Bulldog's record mile. Looks like Race 9 is up next.

Back Of The Neck, who's been lightly raced by Standardbred standards this season but seems to be rounding into form, wins the Dayton Trotting Derby for the second year in a row.
