Very similar background to Snap Decision having been trained by Shug McGaughey on the flat and brought to Jack Fisher's barn to become a jumper. TMQ certainly needed this race, makes the (knock on wood) match-up with Snap next month even more intriguing.
Wow, he had speed in the flat, in spite of staring into the stands.

Thanks for the heads-up or I'd have missed it. If you're from New York, I think it's against the law not to be familiar with Entenmann's. ;)

What. Noah and the Ark romps. Even steeplechasing doesn't have these kind of upsets at this level. Insane.

They're claiming that there was an outrider and pony blocking TMQ at the start, though looking at the replay the pony is out and away from the field before the starter's flag is brought down. Now TMQ may have been upset about the pony having been there, and Brion may argue that they knew TMQ is a headcase and should have been more careful at the start, but she wasn't physically impeded. And the video certainly doesn't show TMQ "spotting the field 4 lengths" like Brion is claiming here.

I've seen much messier starts go off than this (see Grey Giant throwing a tantrum in that Saratoga allowance last month), it comes with the territory of having highly strung horses with no gate to contain them. When a race is over 2 miles the start matters a lot less. TMQ ran her race, just ran out of gas and got nosed at the line by a fitter horse with more flat speed. That's what you get for running in a very salty novice race over the G1 where your horse belongs.

Between this and Brion's previous twitter complaints about weights (too high on her maidens but too low on Snap Decision apparently  ) she is starting to rub me the wrong way a little bit.

The great trotting mare Atlanta will be ending her racing career after this season. Her owners have announced that she will be having meet-and-greets with fans at her remaining stops on the Grand Circuit. :D

(she will also be in the Breeders Crown elim on Oct 22 but will not be making an appearance then)
The first chance for fans will be this week at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in central Ohio. The Ron Burke-trained Atlanta will compete at Delaware for the first time in her career on Thursday in the Miss Versatility Series final, and a day earlier will participate in a meet-and-greet at the fairground’s Jugette Barn. The event Wednesday will be from 10 a.m. to noon.

The Little Brown Jug is this Thursday, with the unfortunately-named Jugette for the fillies tomorrow. Both races are among a handful of standardbred races still ran under heats - the top 4 horses from each of two eliminations races return in the final about an hour later. Some big horses (Pebble Beach, Beach Glass, Boudoir Hanover) are skipping it as they do every year but IMO it should be a point of pride to say that your horse is good enough to race twice in a day.
21 races (!) at the Delaware County Fair tomorrow and Thursday, starting at noon.

The purse shown below are for each elim, then the final of $541k for the Jug or $205k for the Jugette.

The races should be on TVG or whatever it is now, and the OHHA facebook page has live streams

and there's even a radio broadcast if you want to be real old-school

The OHHA Facebook stream is very good, if a bit fast-paced with the 18 minutes between races. But my goodness is it the most Midwestern team of broadcasters I have ever seen  Harness racing is simultaneously a global sport and extremely regional.

Also I have decided that Stumpy is the best Standardbred name of all time and I want him to win the trotting Triple Crown next year.

Bythemissal got his handsome face in front to win the Little Brown Jug! And returns to at least a hundred people crowded into the winner's circle lol. Geldings winning the two biggest 3yo harness races is good for the sport, we'll hopefully get to see Bythemissal and Hambletonian winner Cool Papa Bell for many years to come.
