If Moreno wins, the as*hat trainer is going to be like, "you know all those sour grapes about a buzzer and stuff? Well I have decided that I was mistaken. Carry on." I would like to see Will Take Charge do it again here. I worry about his consistency, but the equipment change may have solved those issues.

I'd be fine with Will Take Charge winning and with Moreno finishing last. I feel bad for Moreno because I don't have anything against him. I just can't stand his trainer.mimi6920 wrote:If Moreno wins, the as*hat trainer is going to be like, "you know all those sour grapes about a buzzer and stuff? I legit thought WTC was going to back it up like a Tonka truck coming into the stretch.

Will Take Charge !! Nice move by Saez going to the rail at the top of the stretch
Hoist the Flag was the best horse I ever rode, by far... It wasn't Seattle Slew.

It was odd. It looked like he totally quit, and the next thing I saw, he was ducking through that hole at the rail and running away from the field. I think taking the blinkers off this guy was a smart move!Somnambulist wrote:I legit thought WTC was going to back it up like a Tonka truck coming into the stretch.
It definitely seems like it is.mimi6920 wrote:It was odd. It looked like he totally quit, and the next thing I saw, he was ducking through that hole at the rail and running away from the field. I think taking the blinkers off this guy was a smart move!
Cool stuff. I loved Take Charge Lady (who didn't?).

He's the man! Go get that fella a cheeseburger and glass of chocolate milk ... and a double order of carrots for Will Take Charge!

Pretty darn proud of WTC. Didn't think he could do it again, but I'm sure happy he did

Haskin on FB:
"In the past 12 months, Will Take Charge has raced at least once in every month except April. Ran in all 3 Triple Crown races and keeps getting better. Hard to believe he ran 2nd in the Springboard Mile at Remington Park last December and hasn't stopped since. Starting last October he's raced at eight different racetracks at seven different distances. And in my opinion he would have been 1st or 2nd in the Ky. Derby had he not gotten stopped cold by Verrazano as he was rallying stride for the stride with Orb. Time to take real notice of this colt."

If I read that Derby comment one more time I will annihilate the author. Slowly. The what if game when it comes to trip capping is profitable the next time or two going forward, not after the horse has already established solid form and all other reasons for the previous discrepancy can be chalked up to nothing tangible or idiosyncrasies.

Maybe this makes sense to someone?Somnambulist wrote:If I read that Derby comment one more time I will annihilate the author. Slowly. My apologies if it doesn't - I need a root canal, can't get in til after the weekend, and think God invented dental pain as a reason for affirming belief in him. Only praying will see me through Tuesday. I'm tired.Jeff wrote:Maybe this makes sense to someone?Somnambulist wrote:If I read that Derby comment one more time I will annihilate the author. Slowly. I'm probably relying a little too heavily on personal conversations I've had about this horse, but it seems the majority of times anyone mentions this horse this troubled Derby trip. Trip handicapping is great (not 5 starts later.. the horse had abysmal form immediately following the Derby, and iffy enough form immediately prior to to merit him as a longshot), but it's subjective and looking back to May at this point is as helpful as something incredibly unhelpful (not that he's exactly looking back, but why mention it). I'd be more willing to chalk his recent development up to the fact that he's late developing whilst his competitors aren't, or even the removal of blinkers. Why Haskin is giving any attention to this troubled Derby trip. It's moot. He's likely near, if not atop his division at the moment.
I've already dedicated more time to it than it deserves. I just have a lovely ability to type like I care more than I do. I promise I don't speak this well.

Sorry you're in pain, Som, but the bolded type is one of the funniest things I've read on this forum in the last few months...Somnambulist wrote:Jeff wrote:Maybe this makes sense to someone?Somnambulist wrote:If I read that Derby comment one more time I will annihilate the author. ...and I agree with most of the rest of your post as well.
Edit: Just watched the replay. WTC has clearly turned the corner... hopefully he makes a nice appearance in the BCC. IMO it's dead tight between him and Orb (see how Orb performs this weekend), with Palace Malice in 3rd for the division title. It will probably (hopefully) come down to the Classic this year.
Got to give Moreno some credit here-I'm not a fan of his trainer, but he's a game/gritty horse. He got pinched & bumped at the start, got pressured by FK all the way around, put that one away, got passed by Battier mid-stretch and came back to clearly beat that one for the place. Very game animal...

It could, but if Orb or PM can manage to win the JCGC, WTC is gonna have to win the BCC to take the title even if WTC just finishes ahead of PM and Orb in the Classic it won't be enough if either PM or Orb wins the JCGC. Well at least I don't think it would. They've all been taking turns beating each other this year so it's not like one has beaten the other consistently for that to be a factor. FOY, FL Derby, Kentucky Derby, JCGC or Belmont, Jim Dandy, JCGC would trump Rebel, Travers, and PA Derby.
it would be interesting if Orb and PM finish badly in the JCGC, and then WTC, PM, and Orb all lose the BCC neither getting close and Verrazano wins the Dirt Mile. Wood Memorial, Haskell, and Dirt Mile isn't a bad combo but I'm sure not enough for the title.
