Doesn't seem like being cheap would override the fact that it causes "...terrible gastrointestinal side effects..."
TB racehorses are notorious for developing gastric ulcers and other diet-related issues, so this seems like a drug that will mainly give you MORE problems with your horse's health.
Diabetes.

Just saw this on twitter. I wonder how many of the tracks have testing barns like this where the person drawing the blood doesn't wear gloves, is touching everything with bare hands, including the vial that they put on upside down. This is how some contamination could happen. Cause if they are doing this what else aren't they doing right?

He should be wearing them, but I rather doubt that improper conduct at Indy is why no video is allowed, and Jenine Sahadi's twitter account is... an interesting place.
Meant to post this earlier, I think it's an interesting read. Trainer with a meth positive has his suspension reduced by 75% after taking responsibility for it and proving he's working with his grooms to keep it from happening again: https://www.drf.com/news/schoenthal-sus ... -days-hiwu

It'll probably never be perfect, but this feels like the direction the system should be heading in.Schoenthal initially used HIWU’s ombudsman, the attorney Alan Foreman, to consult on the adjudication process. After first receiving the 60-day provisional suspension, he reached out personally to HIWU officials to discuss the case.
“I was under the false impression that HIWU didn’t want to talk to responsible parties,” he said. “It wasn’t until late in the process that I reached out to them personally, and they were more than happy to talk with me. And I think most trainers are not yet aware that these are the things that we are expected to be doing and should be doing.”

I know a lot of tracks have strong chaplaincy programs on the backside, but I’m not sure if any are licensed as bonafide counsellors.

Yeah... about that... according to Maggi Moss, the video pre-dates HISA: https://twitter.com/maggimoss/status/17 ... 6446360795

I haven’t worked at the track since the middle to late 80’s but I don’t recall the vet I worked for ( who was held in very high regard) ever wearing gloves for blood draws, only for joint injections. He did rub the area with an alcohol swab before and after. Agree especially in drug testing should be wearing gloves.
