Resilience has two of the finest broodmares we have seen in recent years in his pedigree - Leslie's Lady on top, and Tranquility Lake on the bottom.
I'm a fan now.

You know what they say: the surest way to stop a running horse is to bet on him. I jinxed Jody’s Pride yesterday.

i've said this before (i think) but my brother's (who doesn't understand jacksh!t about racing) strategy is picking cool names. got Rombauer in the Preakness and a few horses in the BC. iirc he also had Mage in the Derby.
i like plushies. a lot.

He covered a furlong in reverse just getting into the gate.

"I don't want to embarrass these guys. Are you really sure? What if they are dreaming of the Derby? They seem like nice horses... maybe I should go back to the barn... come on... I don't want to break their heart... fineee. FINE, I will load"

Sierra Leone is insanely good, but you have to worry a bit about his antics behind the gate today. Can't afford that on Derby day, and closers are of course always up against it in a huge field. But he's one hell of a closer... somehow, despite that horrendous stride.

Seems we have two incredibly talented favorites, with opposite runstyles, both of whom have significant questions surrounding them. Should be fun!

He's a feisty one. Tugging and giving his handler a couple of shakes as they put the cover on him after the race lol.

Some additional thoughts after looking at the chart- really wondering what the figures will come back as, because that last fraction was so slow it almost looks like a timing error. 13 and change? That's a Vekoma split. Sierra Leone ran his last 3/8ths in around :38 flat, which is much slower than I would have thought from watching the race. Wonder if there will be any discourse around this, especially if the figure comes back light.

Watch Just a Touch end up as the wiseguy horse, for some reason people love betting speed horses who get passed in the Blue Grass. And do they continue on with Dornoch? He had nothing today, and it's hard to imagine that he'll have anything on Derby day. Maybe they'll blame it on rating, and try to gun it?

Long way to go yet, but I'm starting to suspect that this Derby is going to be even tougher to evaluate than usual.

I think Dornoch just can't do crap if he isn't on the lead. All of his losses are when he isn't on the lead. All of them. Makes me wonder what the strategy will be for the Derby.

Sierra Leone was an impressive winner!!! :D

His 3rd dam is Roamin Rachel(USA), who is also the 3rd dam of the Japanese KD contender Forever Young(JPN) as well as the dam of the champion Zenno Rob Roy(JPN).
