Her name is definitely amusing as well as clever for racing fans in Japan!
(do you know why? ;) )
Has she already crowned the horse-name-of-the-year (in Japan, haha!)   ,even if no one would have chance to find 'ringoame' in Japanese festivals due to covid-19 problems in reality this year. :(

Who knew candied apples were a Japanese thing. However, I prefer the caramel.

Playing UK racing this morning and a couple of names have stood out so far: Fubar in a 2-mile hurdle race at Market Rasen, and Hungry Helen Hippo, in a 7-furlong maiden on the flat at Redcar.

I think we all know what the acronym FUBAR stands for, and I don't think this name would stand a chance of approval by the Jockey Club here; the horse is an Irish-bred, however, and the name must be OK there. As for Hungry Helen Hippo, your guess is as good as mine.

Been a couple of Quarter Horse " FuBar"s running around over the years, but no TB's I recall. As for Hungry Helen Hippo, I can only imagine that she cleans out her food bucket with enthusiasm - and it shows. I like it.

Maybe they're just fans of the Fubar movies  I mean, they're pretty funny.

From the LATimes newsletter....

This one comes from the you-never-know-what-expect category for this newsletter. A book came across my desk from Timothy Floyd, the owner of Warlock Stables in Spokane, Wash. It’s called: “Baby Haynes, a True Story About Adoption and Unconditional Love.”
Here’s the catch, it’s a children’s book, and by children, I mean mostly really young kids. It’s classified under juvenile nonfiction, which can range from very young up to the 10-12 age range. I don’t mind giving away the plot, but it’s about a foal whose mother dies and he ends up being mothered by a paint several hours away in Washington state.
The book is only 22 pages and it has lots of big type and pictures. It only takes a couple of minutes to read. (Or a couple of minutes to read to someone.)
On the surface, it’s a feel-good story, but if you dig down a layer, it really gets to the idea of being adopted and how you (or animals) can find love by people (or animals) who are not your bio-parents. And, you know, right now, a story about a little love is probably most welcome.
The story is personal to Tim, and not just because he owned the mare that died and is part owner of the colt. Tim was adopted too. I asked him if it was OK to share that fact.
“Yes, and I had wonderful parents and [a wonderful] life,” he wrote back. “My brother and sister, both adopted as well.”
As for the colt, he’s a 2-year-old in training. He’s got some nice works, which you can check on Equibase. None of this is in the book, but the colt is tentatively scheduled to make his debut at Emerald Downs on Sept. 1 for trainer Jeff Metz. If you want to see the cover and read a little more about it or even buy it, check it out at Amazon. Just click here.
Now, I bet you are asking what’s the racing name of the horse? Well, it’s not mentioned in the book because it seems as if Tim didn’t come up with the name until after the book was finished. Ready?

Misspell (American Pharoah-Fact File, by Dixie Union) finished fourth in her debut at Saratoga Aug. 9. A name that points out the only bad thing about AP's name.

seen on twitter......

It’s pretty amusing that in this time of civil unrest over police brutality the two best horses in the country are Tiz the Law and Maximum Security.

I wonder if Mr. Freeze (To Honor and Serve) is named after the Batman villain.

Dr. Schivel gives trainer Luis Mendez his first G1 win with @DelMarRacing Futurity triumph. Colt had majority interest purchased by partnership including @RanchoTemescal and will go to Mark Glatt now. Victory puts Prat up by 1 over @umbyrispoli heading into meet finale.

I think a good name for a horse is one that "ties in" with a big corporation .......

Big Brown sure got UPS on board for instance. Lots of BB fans out of that one, lots of free advertising, ,and that brings in non-racing public to the pools.

Something like Amazonian nowadays

Although using the actual name of the business is a no-no. The Jockey Club usually notices such violations before the horses make it to the track, but back in the '80s, someone named a horse "U.S. Air," which was the name of an airline at the time, and actually raced him a couple of times before the Jockey Club wised up and ordered a change. The owner chose J.C. [for Jockey Club] Recall!
