Since STG won on Kentucky Derby day, had that been the KY Derby and not the Pat Day Mile, and he was going for the Triple Crown right now... would people still feel the same about him running in the Belmont and it being too soon? Or would you prefer he skip the Triple Crown attempt because he is an Arrogate? And do you think that Mystik Dan should skip the Belmont too?

It’s debatable that either horse will run after the Pegasus in January so if they’re doing well, strike while the iron is hot. I remember when Swiss Skydiver was being put in the Preakness. I had no problem with it as long as folks understood she would probably be done at the end of that year. Effectively she was. She won a weak G1 at Santa Anita in her first race back after her off the board BC Distaff and then she just circled the track a few times until they pulled the plug.

I have no delusions that STG will run as a 4 year old. I think he will be promptly retired to stud right after the Pegasus due to insurance and his value as a G1 winning son of Arrogate.

For me personally, it would depend on the horse. If you have an iron horse like Hoppertunity, then of course I would proceed…but with caution. Hoppertunity has the bone and the pedigree that implies he could stand a chance of the whole triple crown and not come out like burnt toast at the end. Meanwhile, I would be extremely cautious with a Unbridled’s Song/Uncle Mo. They just don’t seem to have the same level of durability when young.

If Mystik Dan had a chance at the triple crown, I would approach it cautiously. He’s run 8 races, 5 this year. His pedigree implies he may make the whole series, but I would still be cautious.

In summary, I err on caution no matter which horse.

There's some royally pissed off people legitify got claimed on his third start. They are demanding mandella personally give them answers as to why he selected a claimer

I'm so bummed that they didn't stretch him out. Justify over Galileo, I'm not convinced he was a sprinter

I'm inclined to agree with you but maybe they felt that with his breathing issues it was problematical--like Midnight Lute looked every bit the stayer but they kept him sprinting.

Retired horse Lookwhogotlucky was euthanized due to injuries sustained in a storm. He was a show hunter and apparently doing incredibly well. His people are understandably devastated. I'm so glad he had a home where he was so well loved. Fly high, Felix.

My guess is either he could need tie back surgery or he’s perhaps bleeding through the Lasix. I would trust Mandella, in the end. Some horses just don’t want to compete and need to drop.

He'd already had tieback surgery and they did a dynamic scope after his race prior to this one and it came back normal. They were really scratching their heads over this one

That is going to be a really good maiden race! Eagles Flight has been working lights out though so I would be terrified to face him

I'm nervous about facing visceral. But agree it will be an exciting race. Baffert also has two entered but in the race profile mrh didn't seem to think much of either entry

It might be mental, of course it might be a lot of things. Even after the tie back, they sometimes remember struggling to breathe when they really have to throw down and go for it, so they just quit. Who knows? Hopefully like water, he’ll find his level and be productive for Knapp. On to the next.

Mon at SA I think race 8?

Caldera hasn't even made it too lukas barn yet. And has already needed time off due to a bone chip. Hopefully he can hold up to lukas training methods longterm. But he does have unbridleds song in his pedigree so soundness could be a concern longterm with lukas training methods
