Was rooting hard for Dornoch down the lane....because I was rooting even harder AGAINST Mindframe/Irad.
Puca deserves a blanket of carrots and cookies to celebrate what a great mom she is. 8-)

The crazy thing is, he didn't even get an easy lead! He was right up there being pressured on the front, and the pace was on the quicker side. Other horses closed and Seize the Grey finished nowhere, so I hope the narrative doesn't focus on the track, because Dornoch really earned it. And this is speaking as someone who thought he would finish last in the Derby ;) Congrats to everyone who had him!

Mindframe ran huge, Sierra Leone ran his race, Honor Marie bounced back as I'm sure Dan and Seize the Grey will in time--some nice horses this year.

Mindframe might very well be a monster, huge effort for his third start. Sierra Leone a big move, but did drift in once again in the stretch. That just isn't going to change.

Honor Marie slammed at the start again, ran well for fourth. Resilience absolutely dropped anchor on the turn, hope he's okay. Not today for Dan, alas.
I thought Mindframe was gonna get him there at the end, but Dornach is pretty tough, he ran somewhat similar when I saw him in the Fountain of the Youth, got collared and said, yeah no :D He looked so good in post parade I put a $2 win bet on him (not much but I'm happy!)
I had my money on Mindframe. He drifted out about 2 wide down the stretch. Once he settled back in, he closed the gap. Lost, but felt good with the bet. I think he really is a monster horse, especially in his third start.

That being said Dornoch ran a great race. He earned it.

I somehow always forget he's a full brother to Mage.

Great race. At least it wasn’t Repole. Definitely didn’t see Dornoch getting it done. Hopefully STG now gets some rest. He tried hard but it was clearly about the fresh horse today.

Also how awesome is it that Good Magic got a Kentucky Derby winner in his first crop and a Belmont Stakes winner in his second crop?

To be fair, they’re out of the same dam, so she deserves at least 50% of the credit. :D

This is true, Puca is quite the dam 8-) She has another full sibling (or two?) on the ground so maybe one of them can win the Preakness!

I don't think he gets rest unless mrh pushes hard for it. Maybe they will. He's had a hard campaign. But lukas doesn't typically rest horses

I only caught the last furlong or two due to some issues …I read that Honor Marie had some trouble?

Miss Woodford, has there ever been a case of a Standardbred mare producing two classic winners in the same year? or for the QH racing savvy members, has an QH dam ever produced more than 1 classic/"big" race winner in the same foaling year?

1 full (2024), and 1 half (by McKinzie)!
Puca is some broodmare, wow!!! Grats to all of Dornochs connections!

I know. Call it wishful thinking.

So what new steering device do they put on Sierra Leone? An actual wheel?

Very confused by people saying that Gaffalione purposefully interfered with Sierra Leone... Protective dropped a horse in the Wood Memorial, and he is historically known to be erratic in the stretch. Seems a very odd narrative, unless Tyler is known to have a vengeful streak...?

Prat gave Sierra Leone pretty much the exact ride that Tyler would have, there just isn't any fixing that stride and he's going to lose races he should otherwise win because of his runstyle. Very good horse, but it is what it is.

Standardbreds have a one foal per mare per year rule regardless of whether it's natural or transfer, so not possible.

The AQHA is the wild west where top mares regularly have multiple foals in a season anso I'd be shocked if it hasn't happened but getting QH race/pedigree data is unreasonably difficult without paying money so idk.

Color me surprised. I didn't give Dornoch much of a shot.

Seemed like a good day, didn't see any injuries or worse. I had STG (shareholder) but when I saw him fighting for the lead, I figured we were screwed. STG will hopefully get a little rest. Mystic Dan too.
