The Hong Kong Derby will be run tonight over 2000m (about a mile and a quarter) for 4yos. Hong Kong has no breeding and instead imports horses from all over the world. I thought it was particularly interesting this year so decided to share the field for this years edition:

Are any of those horses NOT a gelding?
Interesting to see Mor Spirit as the sire of #6. Where is Mor Spirit standing now? TIA.

ETA: Curiosity led me to try to answer my question about geldings, and I have found one lucky runner (and he is the ONLY one) who hasn't had the dreaded Hong Kong snip - Unbelievable (being by Justify x Together Forever [Galileo] made him potentially too well bred to cut?). He just had his name changed.

No breeding industry in Hong Kong so no need to keep them uncut.

Likely Unbelieveable will be cut sooner or later, they are usually cut after a couple of runs and they are more valuable to Hong Kong owners if they have longer careers.

His breeder/owner must have had higher hopes for the colt from that blue-blooded breeding. Throwing it all away for short-term profit feels depressing.

Massive Sovereign won in 1:59.85, breaking Golden Sixty's 2020 record (2:00.15).

Yip now is looking to even bigger things for Massive Sovereign in the QE II Cup (G1) at the end of April at Sha Tin, likely against some talented international raiders.

"I've already entered him," Yip said. "I will see how the horse pulls up. If he's good and he improves, I will go this way."
