Reading the full brother to Zenyatta was sold to Libya. Does anyone know anything about TB breeding and racing in that area? Any follow up after the sale on the condition of that beautiful horse and the people who care for him?

Libya is in a war right now and has been for years. The racing industry was starting to get going before the war started. But there was a militia raid on the biggest Thoroughbred breeder in Libya twice in the past week and all the horses were stolen. I've tried to find what farm he went to since I saw he was sold there in early 2018 but I've never been able to find anything. He wasn't at the raided farm.

Couldn't find any mention of him more recent than May 2018. Latest mentions of him say that he was raced by Godolphin/Aidan O'Brien, broke his maiden in Ireland (Aug 2016, on a shorter distance) and eventually, that he was another example of a stunning pedigree that was not matched success on the track, which presumably explains the sale to Libya.

Now, if he is still a stud, I could just see the buyer (whoever that was) trying to see if De Coronado just might be more of a success in the breeding shack, but possibly trying to do this experiment on the quiet.

It is such an unstable area. I couldn't find anything more than he was sold, but no follow up or detail. Who else has been sold to Libya TB breeders? Frightening to consider there horses were stolen from a TB farm there. How do you know De Coronado wasn't at that farm? I've read where Arabian horse breeders in severely war torn countries in the Middle East are able to keep going though many, many are lost in attacks.

Because they said all 6 of their stallions were stolen and listed their names.

Follow up. This has been a high risk area for months. From another story published in June 2019.

"They shot two horses (who) were wounded in the legs ... no one could provide the ambulance to help the horse with euthanasia.

"We appeal to all humanitarian organisations and all horse organisations to save the horses of Libya."

Is this the place that De Coronado was sold to?

he was not at that farm. Flanders already told you the farm released the names of the stallions they lost and De Coronado was not one of them.

hopefully someone knows where he is, but that farm wasn't it.

This farm appeared to bring in horses that were auctioned later. That was why I asked if he was originally sold to them, then possibly resold. He was listed in a sale the fall of 2017 in the UK, then pulled. He then showed up with Miss Sam and her partner. He must not have worked for them because he was then sold in early 2018 from what I could find, to someone in Libya. This farm frequented those sales though De Coronado was a private sale from Miss Sam's herd.

He looks lost at this time. Thanks for the information so far.

I found one mention of him on a Facebook page that hasn't been updated since 2018. If the person who said something about him owns him, which is really unclear because Google translate doesn't work well with Arabic, then he is around Tripoli.

Follow up story in Bloodhorse from April. The raided stud farm is back in the owner's protection. No mention of De Coronado in Tripoli though (if that is where he landed). Nor of the stallions and mares on the farm. The story noted some yearlings were retrieved.

Is it too much of a reach to suggest (or hope) he may have been bought by a Libyan owner, stayed there for a while, and then sent to Saudi Arabia because the industry there is better and the nation is a little more stable?

Likely the only people who might know what happened to him are those who sold him to the country. I read that about the time of the raid, an air strike hit Tripoli and a schooling stable in the area. Horses died, an elderly man died and if I remember, children were hurt or maybe casualties too. I cannot imagine De Coronado being used as a schooling horse so likely not on site.

So resurrecting an old thread and while his foal doesn't show up on Equineline, I've found the same foal listed on Sport Horse Data and PedgireeQuery. The foal was bred by AlJamal Stud in Misrata, Libya. I contacted them through FB, and they said he is standing at a farm in Trippoli 200km away from their farm. Thankfully he’s alive and well!
