His previous starts were a 2nd on July 28th and 3rd on September 1st, both at Del Mar, 1 mile on turf.
Cool Runnings seemed to have trouble or just tired out way too quickly. I wonder what the story is. He was doing fine with the pacesetters, then coming around the turn just ... failed to respond in any way and seemed to finish sort of eased up, in last.

06 October (Sunday) workouts
* Emily's Oasis - Skylight Training Center/allweather - first logged work since finishing 3rd in an MSW on 12-September
* Seagal - Palm Meadows Training Center/turf
* Shell Shock - Palm Meadows Training Center/dirt
* Slip Sliding Away - Belmont Park/dirt

Would we still call that AP over Danehill line, in addition to AP/Danehill Dancer (which in this case gives it away anyhow, but still).
I'd don't know that there is a definitive answer. For example, if you used True Nicks to check the cross of AP over Siberian Iris (Excelebration-->Exceed and Excel-->Danehill) it shows me the resulting cross:
Empire Maker and his sons/grandsons over Danehill and his sons/grandsons. If the cross has been done a lot it will drop different generations, I've seen it drop the furthest back and also the grandsons.

But I would personally say, at least Danehill and his sons would be considered this cross for sure. The grandsons part is where is gets kind of fuzzy, at least to me.

* 09 October (Wednesday) - Hong Kong - Welcome To Navan Racecourse Maiden 2yo - Navan 1 mile on turf - 40 are entered, max is 18. Last started was 8th of 10 on 9-August and prior to that 7th of 11 on 27-June, both at Curragh over 7 furlongs. He's been unable to make the draw, or has scratched when he did get declared, since that August race. https://www.goracing.ie/race-meetings/r ... &race=1400

* 10 October (Thursday) - Elfin Queen - Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden 2yo fillies - Thurles 1 mile on turf - 33 are entered, max is 15. Last start was 18-September in another 2yo fillies maiden going 6 furlongs; she finished 7th of 18. https://www.goracing.ie/race-meetings/r ... &race=1405
Both Elfin Queen and Hong Kong failed to make the draw and are so far down the alt-entry list they're not going to be running (13th of 18 for Elfin Queen, 15th of 22 for Hong Kong).

11 October (Friday) - Both Elfin Queen and Holy Roman Empress have been submitted for a 2yo fillies' maiden at Newmarket - the Godolphin Under Starters Orders Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Plus 10 Race), 7 furlongs, race 6, post 16:45 local time. There are currently 33 entrants and a max of 20. This is part of their Dubai Future Champions Festival, with Friday being Ladies' Day and Saturday the 12th being Dubai Future Champions Day.
Elfin Queen didn't get drawn into this race, either, and is 8th of 13 on the alternates list.
HOWEVER ... Holy Roman Empress did get drawn. She hasn't yet been Declared.

* 12 October (Saturday) - Monarch of Egypt - G1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes 2yo - Newmarket 7 furlongs on turf - 39 entered, max is 20. This would be a 2-week turnaround from his last race, when he failed to fire and came in last in the G1 Juddemonte Middle Park Stakes. Other entrants include Pinatubo, Mum's Tipple, and Siskin. https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/38 ... -12/736056
Monarch of Egypt was drawn, isn't yet showing up as Declared. There are 11 entries showing up so far; the others are: Arizona, Harpocrates, Iffraaz, Molatham, Mystery Power, Pinatubo, Positive, Royal Commando, Wichita, Year of the Tiger
This would be just 14 or so days turnaround from his 8th-of-8 finish in the G1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes won by Earthlight (Siskin had acted up in the stalls and was a last-minute scratch).

07 October (Monday) workouts
* Menelik - Belmont Park/dirt
* Orsay - Belmont Park/dirt
* Royal Act - Santa Anita/dirt
* She'samericanmade - Belmont Park/dirt
* Toastnjam - Belmont Park/dirt

Thanks for the input. Going back to saying it's Empire Maker puts the Named horses on the same level, rather than Sire/Grandsire. Hmmm.

I remember reading somewhere that Winx was the only cross someone could find of Street Cry over an Al Akbar daughter, though there were a couple of Street Cry line / the line Al Akbar came from. And I haven't followed her dam to see if she's been bred to any Street Cry sons (I do remember she had a Deep Impact filly).

The problem with Danehill is not that he appears in pedigrees but that they appear in pedigrees so many times, he can appear 3 or 4 times in one pedigree which is problematic!

Al Akbar stood in New Zealand he wasnt a very popular sire, there were only about 110 broodmares in NZ, so only a handful of daughters in Australia.
Vegas Showgirls breeding record (a good example of Danehill sires):
2009 - Encosta De Lago slipped
2010 - Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) filly Miss Atom Bomb
2011 - Street Cry filly Winx
2012 - Fastnet Rock (Danehill) gelding Win Win Leader exported to HK
2013 - Snitzel (Redoutes Choice) colt El Divino died
2014 - Snitzel (Redoutes Choice) colt Boulder City unraced at stud
2015 - Snitzel missed
2016 - Snitzel (Redoutes Choice) filly Courchevel
2017 - Exceed And Excel (Danehill) filly Covent Garden
2018 - Exceed And Excel missed
2019 - Deep Impact

Winx is the only breeding of Street Cry over an Al Akbar daughter. Vegas Showgirl has not gone to another stallion from the Street Cry line or even from the Mr. Prospector sire line. Her first foal was by Encosta de Lago, all her other foals are by Danehill line stallions, except her 2019 Deep Impact filly.
If I run a Truenicks on that cross, it shows its a A++ nick. But its showing Street Cry and his sons/grandsons over Hold Your Peace and his sons/grandsons. Its mostly showing Street Cry over Meadowlake mares and Street Cry over Success Express mares, though there are a few of his sons with foals showing up in the list. I would imagine with Winx's success that they would try to breed Al Akbar daughters to Street Cry's sons. But as RugbyGirl said, there probably aren't a ton of Al Akbar mares out there.

New Nominations - Just overseas, I don't have time to check the US ones any more

* 12 October (Saturday) - Hong Kong - Having missed the draw for a 9-October maiden, he's now submitted for The Follow Limerick Racecourse On Twitter Maiden - 7 furlongs, race 2 at 2:35pm local time. There are 30 nominated for a max of 16 starters. https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/18 ... -12/742005 He's also been nominated for the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes on October 26th. I don't see that happening given he has yet to finish on the board in a maiden.

* 13 October (Sunday) - Holy Roman Empress - She's already drawn into a 7 furlong 2yo maiden fillies' on Friday the 11th at Newmarket, but has a new submission for the 1mile Listed Staffordstown Stud Stakes for 2yof at Curragh. That one shows 19 so far for what looks to be 24 (!) starting positions. Over half the field are maidens and one so far will be a debut. https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/17 ... -13/742013

I love some of these race names :)

Thanks for the info. That's about what my thinking was, since they've declined (for whatever reason) to try Vegas Showgirl with a Street Cry son, that the SC sons / AA daughters might be the next obvious choice. Assuming they find the mares and studs that are suitable in the other factors besides having the right daddy.

Several dog breeds have the same problem. There was a super popular sire Haltor's Peter Pumpkin, whom himself was 2x3 inbred to Sea Isle Serenade who himself was the product of a sire/daughter mating. This was back in the 60s and 70s but a few years back I was seeing a dog that didn't show PP in the 5-gen pedigree but he was behind every single one of the 5th gen ancestors (was the sire of a couple, IIRC). The dog was like 2/3rds an ancestor who didn't show up in the 5gen at all.

I understand that inbreeding in animals is a little different than humans (because survival of species, or whatever), but I don't understand what would possess someone to send a daughter to her father or a mother to her son.

Somebody sent one of Mr. Prospector's daughters, Wincloc's Millie, to him, and the owners of Nobiz Like Shobiz would repeatedly breed him to his half sisters. Why?!

I always thought it might be interesting to send Tepin to Sky Mesa in the hopes of getting a filly that you could then send to an outcross. I think doubling up on good broodmares close up tends to work better than stallions, but maybe that is just because breeders have tried the former more than the latter?

08 October (Tuesday) workouts
* Ameriel - Fair Hill/allweather

09 October (Wednesday) workouts
* Cebolla - Los Alamitos QH/dirt
* Mo American - Lone Star/dirt
* Unnamed filly o/o Secrettina - Churchill Training/dirt - This is her first logged workout that I can find. She has four siblings, two who never won, and another two unraced. Seacrettina looks like the definition of precocity: as a 2yo she won on debut MSW, then a Black Type Stakes, 2nd in another BT stakes, then finishing off the board from then on. Despite the lackadasical showing of siblings her offspring must look gorgeous because all four other foals have gone for $200,000+ and her 2016 foal, Judge Marty, brought $500,000 from Spendthrift as a yearling. He's now gelded and not yet running. Maybe American Pharoah will be the sire to bring out the best in Seacrettina's genetic potential.

Upcoming Races

* 09 October (Wednesday) - A two-fer: Envied and Sweet Melania are both entered for the Grade 2 JP Morgan Jessamine Stakes for 2yo fillies at Keeneland, 1-16th mile on turf, race 7 post time 4:24pm. Envied breaks from 2 and Sweet Melania from 6th. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/KE ... html#RACE7
Envied is out of Halljoy(IRE) by Halling, is owned by HnR Nothhaft, trained by Ben Colebrook and ridden by Miguel Mena. She won her debut MSW 1 mile on turf at Ellis Park, then came in 3rd in the Happy Ticket Stakes (Blacktype) on Sept 7th. Both of those runs were Lasix free, but the charts today show she'll be on Lasix for the Jessamine.
Sweet Melania is out of Sweet N Discrete by Discrete Cat, is owned by Robert & Lawana Low, trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by Jose Ortiz, and has a 4-1-1-2 record with a 2nd place in the P.G. Johnson Stakes(Listed) as Crystalle caught her just before the wire. This will be the 4th track she's raced on.

* 11 October (Friday) - Elfin Queen (half to Cupid) made it off the alternate list and is now Declared for the a 2yo fillies' maiden at Newmarket - the Godolphin Under Starters Orders Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Plus 10 Race), 7 furlongs, race 6, post 16:45 local time. This is part of their Dubai Future Champions Festival, with Friday being Ladies' Day and Saturday the 12th being Dubai Future Champions Day. She made her debut September 18th finishing 7th of 18 in a 6 furlong 2yo fillies' Maiden at Naas. She's owned by Coolmore, trained by A.P. O'Brien, and will be ridden by Ryan Moore. https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/38 ... -11/739854

* 13 October (Sunday) - Holy Roman Empress - She was drawn into the above race that Elfin Queen had originally not made it into, and now has dropped that and instead is in (but not yet Declared) for the 1mile Listed Staffordstown Stud Stakes for 2yof at Curragh. That one shows 19 so far for what looks to be 24 (!) starting positions. Over half the field are maidens and one so far will be a debut. https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/17 ... -13/742013

Nominations & Submissions - Waiting for final

* 12 October (Saturday) - Monarch of Egypt - G1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes 2yo - Newmarket 7 furlongs on turf - Drawn but not yet Declared, the field is currently 11. This would be a 2-week turnaround from his last race, when he failed to fire and came in last in the G1 Juddemonte Middle Park Stakes. * 12 October (Saturday) - Hong Kong - Have missed the draw and sitting at 13th on the alterates list, he's not likely to make it into the "Follow Limerick Racecourse On Twitter Maiden" - 7 furlongs, race 2 at 2:35pm local time. There are 30 nominated for a max of 16 starters. https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/18 ... -12/742005

Waiting for the official confirmation of the win, but Sweet Melania took the lead early on, expanded to a length then held it to the stretch and then expanded to cross the wire many lengths ahead of everyone else. She looked a bit held-back in the beginning then started running smoothly with those ears flapping forward and back and looking fantastic.

This makes her the first G2 for American Pharoah, and third overall Graded Stakes winner. WAYI for the BC Juvenile Fillies turf!

Envied finished 12th of 13. She was caught up in the traffic jam behind the leaders, running what looked like about 7th or so packed in at the rail, and the view on the stretch run was so pixellated I couldn't make out which was her in the jostling for final charge scrum.

    Monarch of Egypt was sixth (I think) in the Dewhurst. A drop in class seems to be in order.

    Pinatubo now 6 for 6.
