Smarty's Echo will go in the Lecomte at FG. He's put together a strong worktab at that track.

Run Smart One held on for third in Calder $5,000 claimer.
Benefited from inside trip and won $1,111.
He needs every break now just to get a piece at the $5,000 level.

Just a reminder that Smarties will be running in 3 stakes races on Saturday:

Jonesy Boy (ML 5/1) in the Evening Attire @ AQU, PT 3:48 pm ET.

Old Time Hockey (8/1) in the Florida Sunshine Millions Turf @ GP, PT 4:03 pm ET. Unfortunately drew the outside gate, BUT has Gary Stevens aboard.

Smarty's Echo (8/1) in the G3 Lecomte Stakes @ FG, PT 5:23 pm ET

Old Time Hockey -- will he ever break through?
He seems to like to run with the pack -- never asserts himself.

One to check out on Sunday: 3yo Creative Spirit (Little Hussy by Horse Chestnut) making her debut in GP 6. Trained by Mark Casse, bred & owned by John Oxley, she's been very quick in the mornings. And her ML odds make her second choice.

A very, very distant 3rd for Jonesy Boy in the Evening Attire -- but, hey, it's a listed stakes place!

Coming back with a whole new running style, Old Time Hockey was 2nd in a photo. Best race he's ever run.

Inquiry: bumping in the stretch. Order stands. Good to see OTH bull right back when bumped.

yeah, great race by old time hockey...I really thought he should have been moved up..it is interesting that the camera there is not set up to take a head on picture in the stretch at that track.

also, jonsey boy did make a good run to finish 3rd..even though 3rd was pretty much out of the TVpicture in the stretch

Bersagliere(USA), C4. Smarty Jones(USA) x Knight Prospector(USA) by Native Prospector(USA), scored his third victory in the Gojozaka Tokubetsu Kyoto 9R 1900m dirt allowance on Jan 19th. 7-3-1-2.
He led throughout and found another gear in the final furlong.
That was a beautiful wire-to-wire!!! 8-)

Thank you, tachyon! First chance I've had to see him -- good-looking horse! Also: Smarty's first winner of 2014.

Fibally, Old Time Hockey was sent to the front.
Only took two years to figure out that he needs to assert himself.

Smarty's Echo needs a new somebody -- trainer or jockey.
Terrible from the gate.
He is going back wards fast.

Agreed! He is a good-looking colt!!
..... this was the first time he ran in a named race for which JRA video is available. ;)

This pick below is from his first win in Sep 2013.

My jaw literally dropped when Gary sent him to the front. :-) I liked everything I saw, especially his willingness to fight for the win. In fairness, however, it must be noted that he was running against much tougher competition in SoCal.

I think he needs time off to mature. Patience usually pays with the talented Smarties. However, he worked too well in the mornings at FG to run that badly in the afternoon. I really think the blinkers turned out to be a bad idea. But, you don't know until you try them.

Decent debut for this girl -- she led most of the way, was no match for the heavy favorite who blew by her late, but dug in and held on for 2nd. One to watch.

:D :D

Noble Jewelry(USA), 2008M. Smarty Jones(USA) x Noble Stella(GER) by Monsun(GER), is set to run in the G3 Kyoto Himba Stakes 1600m turf at Kyoto on Jan 25th. She gets Lemaire.
I always thought she had the talent to be a graded winner.
But it took her three years to return to the graded company. She finished 7th in a G3 at 3.
The 6yo mare and her followers must have dreamed of this entry. :D
