Not REALLY a Name Registration, but ... - Nile River, a colt o/o Jeweliana that was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida in last March's FT 2YoIT sale for $775,000 and exported to Japan, finally has his name registration showing up on his JBIS registration. The name had been on the Equibase/US Jockey Club registration for some time, but his JBIS entry was blank. Maybe his connections are about to enter him? Or maybe not. But it is a change to his record and certainly makes it easier to confirm I'm looking at the right page
Upcoming Races:
* 4 October (Friday) - Express Pharoah - MSW for 2yo at Gulfstream Park, 1 mile on dirt, breaking from gate 4, race 5, post time 3:04pm US Eastern time. Last run was his debut, finishing 5th in a Gulfstream Park MSW that was 6 furlongs on dirt, so he's stretching out a bit in this second try http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/GP ... html#RACE5
colt o/o Sea Queen, trained by Antonio Sano and ridden by Jairo Rendon. He was a $90,000 purchase by Partner Stable LLC from the Keeneland 2018 Sept Yearling sale, but $100,000 RNA when they tried to pinhook him the following March at FT 2yoIT sale, so Partner Stables kept him for racing.

Yeah, that's going to be a fun one for the fans. California Chrome's halfbrother vs a American Pharoah maiden. Both of them are coming off 5th place finishes in debut races, only Ft McHenry was 5th of 5 vs Express Pharoah's 5th of 8. The former comes into this race with a couple weeks' longer break than the latter. It's at Gulfstream.CorridorZ75 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 5:06 pm Interesting MSW at Calder- Fort McHenry is also entered in that one I believe.

Article about the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes that Skygaze is entered in - https://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing ... n-mazarine
I'd need to check but I think this would make her American Pharoah's first Canadian Graded Stakes runner, and if she won it'd be his second Graded Stakes winner (the other also being G3), and the first GS winner in North America.

Huh. Thanks for the info. I had wondered what the deal was with them. Not seeing workouts and timings for the non-US trainees makes it sort of harder to figure out if they are still training and if so, how well. Thank you so much for that.
South Saqqara had one run back in May (finished 7th after awkward break and not really engaging himself), and was scratched from a maiden race in July. I don't recall seeing him even nominated for anything since but could be wrong. I didn't start really tracking the non-US "we want into this maiden race" submissions until recently. His sale page is http://www.tattersalls.com/4DCGI/Entry/Lot/AUT19/263
Spanish Chestnut is still unraced. I think she may be the only racing-age offspring from an AP/Danehill cross. 2017 crop also has Tiger Touch as AP/granddaughter-of-Danehill. I haven't yet looked at the Southern Hemisphere and 2018+ foals to see what counts we have on those crosses down there.

Oooooh this looks to be a cool race ... both Another Miracle and Four Wheel Drive are entered in the G3 Futurity Stakes at Belmont Park this Sunday Oct 6th. (edited to add: Race 7, post time 4:12pm; 6 furlongs on turf)
Both of these colts won BT stakes over 5.5 furlongs of turf in their last outings.
Four Wheel Drive set a track record when he debut'd in the Rosie's Stakes (Blacktype) last August 31st. Another Miracle 's coming into this race with more experience under his cinch - it's his fourth start - and two weeks' additional layoff.
The other opponents are nothing to sneeze at:
Embolden won the 5.5-furlongs-on-turf blacktype Jamestown Stakes at Colonial Downs Sep 7th.
Tomato Bill is coming off a 2nd place in the G3 Sanford Stakes; he survived an inquiry into bumping the 3rd place finisher.
Freewheeler was very green but won his debut by 5+ lengths.
and the surprise to me at least, given it's 10 or so days turnaround, was seeing Jack and Noah entered. This boy is the one that beat out Turned Aside in a MSW last 27 September. He showed a really nice closing kick after having been unhappy at being held back in 2nd/3rd until the stretch charge (kudos to his jock).

(I'm just going to update this as I find new 10/04 updates - like previous days I probably won't have time to do them all, sorry. Anyone want to take over this research? LOL )
04 October (Friday) workouts
* All American Dream - Stonestreet Training LLC
* Cardiac Kid - Churchill Downs/dirt - first logged work since his 2nd place finish in an MSW at Saratoga on 14 September. Before then it'd been a 30-September 1:03:70 5-furlong session on Saratoga's dirt training track.
* Drapes - Fair Hill/dirt
* Egyptian Princess- Churchill Downs/dirt. First logged work since debuting at 6th in an MSW at Churchill Downs on 21 September.
Other Upcoming Runs
* 06 October (Sunday) - DEBUT - Orsay tries to start again in an MSW at Belmont Park, race 5 post time 3:37pm, 6 furlongs over dirt. It's the race immediately before the Futurity Stakes mentioned in the previous post, so once again we have 3 AP babies split between two back-to-back races. Orsay tried to debut back on Oct 1st but acted up at the gate, tossed her jock, and was a last-minute scratch (no injuries to horse or rider). She's been doing decent, not stellar, consistent weekly works for some time now.
* 06 October (Sunday) - Cool Runnings - Zuma Stakes at Santa Anita, 1 mile on turf. He breaks from the farthest outside - 7th of 7. Race 4, post time 2pm local-time, 5pm US Eastern time. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/SA ... html#RACE4 He's still a maiden, maybe he'll follow Four Wheel Drive's example and have his first win be a stakes race? His previous starts were a 2nd on July 28th and 3rd on September 1st, both at Del Mar, 1 mile on turf.
* 09 October (Wednesday) - Another two-fer: Envied and Sweet Melania are both entered for the Grade 2 JP Morgan Jessamine Stakes for 2yo fillies at Keeneland, 1-16th mile on turf, race 7 post time 4:24pm. Envied breaks from 2 and Sweet Melania from 6th. http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/KE ... html#RACE7

Express Pharoah pressured the leader from second, then third as Ft McHenry, (Tapit half to California Chrome) pulled ahead, then started fading in the backstretch and falling more and more behind, had no response left in the stretch, and finished 6th of 8th. The winner Gemo took the lead early on, defended it, and pulled away. Gemo was noticeably tiring in the stretch but had enough distance and gas left to hold off Ft McHenry.vfan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 9:50 am * 04 October (Friday) - Express Pharoah - MSW for 2yo at Gulfstream Park, 1 mile on dirt, breaking from gate 4, race 5, post time 3:04pm US Eastern time. Chromies are going to be happy, Ft McHenry had a nice run with his 2nd place.

Danehill was very prolific in Australia, his three sons Exceed and Excel, Fastnet Rock, and Redoutes Choice are all champion sires and if the mares arent by them, Danehill will likely appear somewhere in the pedigree. Many shuttle stallions now are advertised as being "completely free of Danehll blood". I will look through the 2018 SH AP pedigrees soon and come up with a percentage of Danehill bloodvfan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 12:01 pm Spanish Chestnut is still unraced. Yeah seeing that quote "completely free of Danehill blood" in a press release announcing a shuttle way back when got me curious about just what was "wrong" with Danehill. My memory had been he'd been a pretty decent sire, maybe I missed a news article that he'd been diagnosed as carrying some kind of lethal recessive ? Nope, he was just producing winning foals and people kept breeding to him and then his sons and daughters until, as the old joke goes, there's no one left who's legal to marry.RugbyGirl wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 10:12 pmDanehill was very prolific in Australia, his three sons Exceed and Excel, Fastnet Rock, and Redoutes Choice are all champion sires and if the mares arent by them, Danehill will likely appear somewhere in the pedigree. It'll be neat seeing what you come up with. Being completely free of Danehill blood may get them a lot of mares, but it still produces another generation that ISN'T free of Danehill blood. They've just pushed Danehill back another gen, and now the choice for the next generation is dominated by the a few shuttle sires.
Question overall - how many generations back would Danehilll have to be in a mare before the AP offspring would not be considered "AP over Danehill" or "AP and Danehill line" ? Spanish Chestnut's dam is a daughter of Danehill, so that's definitely AP/Danehill. But Tiger Touch is a case where his dam Osaila(IRE) is sired by a Danehill son (Danehill Dancer(IRE)) . Would we still call that AP over Danehill line, in addition to AP/Danehill Dancer (which in this case gives it away anyhow, but still).

Something I had left out of the above on Skygaze - she was the co-highweight, and the other runner carrying 118# was last. 2nd place was 116#; 3rd place 115#, and she was giving 4 pounds to the rest of the field. So she wired the field while highweight - that makes the DQ even more frustrating and hopefully she cuts that stuff out.Skygaze honey, please learn to stay in your lane ... you run AROUND the arc of the circle, not IN an arc.
Skygaze wired the race, but bumped Take Charge Eh early on who checked, and then in the stretch run cut out and bumped Curlin's Voyage who also checked. The final order of finish was Skygaze still in first, a couple of lengths ahead of Curlin's Voyage, and then a few lengths back to Take Charge Eh looking almost like she and the rest of the field had been eased up. There were complaints about the bumps, and stewards moved Skygaze to back behind Take Charge Eh.
Actual order - Skygaze, Curlin's Voyage, Take Charge Eh. She would have been the 2nd GSW for American Pharoah.
Official order - Curlin's Voyage, Take Charge Eh, Skygaze
Thankfully there weren't any injuries.
American Butterfly's race was bump free but unfortunately also win-free for him. He broke well and took the lead early, led to around the 6 furlong marker, then faded. He didn't have much left to respond with as others passed him. Gouverneur Morris overtook him in a fast charge on the outside, then Maxfield blasted by both of them and kept on pulling away to win by six. American Butterfly came in 6th of 10. Great performance by Maxfield, who is by Street Sense out of Velvety (by Bernardini).
So today was disappointingly a G3 win DQ'd down to G3P3, and a G1 run that, if it had been a sprint, might have turned out better than just G1 run.
In AB's last start, the G1 Joyful (Runhappy Joyful Stakes), he also set the pace and then faded. It could be just the camera angle and his dark coloration, but on the video he looked to be sweating more heavily than the others as he was giving way. Maybe he's better suited to the 6f sprints, maybe he needs more endurance training, maybe change to a strategy that doesn't involve setting the pace, maybe just needs to grow up some more ... lots of options.

More Nominated/Submitted (whatever the term is over the pond) - will keep an eye on these and update when the final draw and declarations are made:
11 October (Friday) - Both Elfin Queen and Holy Roman Empress have been submitted for a 2yo fillies' maiden at Newmarket - the Godolphin Under Starters Orders Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Plus 10 Race), 7 furlongs, race 6, post 16:45 local time. There are currently 33 entrants and a max of 20. This is part of their Dubai Future Champions Festival, with Friday being Ladies' Day and Saturday the 12th being Dubai Future Champions Day. The races are listed under each day but you can't click on them to see the racecards. I was trying to see if the race had been drawn, similar to how the HRI site shows draw + waiting list. The website keeps urging me to load their app on my phone, so my guess is they hide or just don't show the racecards on their site, expecting you to install their software on your phone or go to third-party sites. Orsay was an also-eligible, my mistake in presenting her as an actual entry. Field was capped at 12, she was first on the alternate list, no one scratched from the race so she was automatically scratched. Power Move lived up to her name with a strong closing kick after some great taking advantage of gaps in the field at critical moments.vfan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2019 12:37 pm * 06 October (Sunday) - DEBUT - Orsay tries to start again in an MSW at Belmont Park, race 5 post time 3:37pm, 6 furlongs over dirt.
